Mango Salsa: The Sweet and Spicy Combo You Didn’t Know You Needed

I love tacos. Yes, you can call me basic, but I love tacos and everything that goes on top of tacos (that’s not dairy, that is)!

As a result, my friends and I have taco night about once every two months.

And we Go. All. Out.

We basically have an entire taco bar. There’s always two or three different kinds of tortillas, two or three different kinds of salsa, cilantro lime rice, tomatoes, guacamole, and lots (and lots) of chips for all the dips.

At one of these traditional taco nights, one of my friends brought this new salsa that I personally had never heard of. Can you guess what it was??

If you guessed mango salsa, you’d be right.

Oh. My. Goodness. If you like mangoes and you have never had mango salsa, you’re missing out!

Even if you don’t like mangoes, if you like sweet and spicy mixed together, you definitely need to try this!

And if you don’t like either of those options — well then, please get with me about how to change your taste buds, because you are most definitely missing out on several joys of life

Before I tried mango salsa, I thought I didn’t like mangoes. How wrong I was. Once I tasted this combination, my taste buds went absolutely wild.

Ever since that night, I’ve been OBSESSED with mango salsa. If I need an easy appetizer, regardless of what the main meal is, I’m usually making mango salsa. If I want something sweet and spicy, mango salsa is the (only) answer.

And of course, when I make tacos, I’m always always always making mango salsa to go with it!

About the Mango Salsa Recipe

This quick and easy recipe comes together with:

  • Mangoes
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Lime juice
  • Jalapeno
  • Garlic
  • Grape or cherry tomatoes
  • Red onion
  • Salt

The ingredients are SO basic and ones you can find at virtually any grocery store in the U.S. (Pro tip: if you are searching for mangoes in the grocery store, they’re usually in the ‘tropical/exotic’ fruit section. In most of the grocery stores I visit, this section is by the bananas.)

How to Cut a Mango

If you need help with cutting up a mango (believe me, I know that struggle), check out this helpful video by mango.org:

Basically, you have to avoid the seed (which is in the middle) to cut the mango into roughly two halves. Then, dice the flesh while it’s still inside the peel. Then you just have to scoop out the perfect little cubes — and you’re done!

It might sound and look difficult, but I promise that with as much as you’ll be making this recipe, you’ll get faster at cutting mangoes — and before you know it, you’ll be a pro!

A Healthy, Delicious Addition to Taco Night

This mango salsa recipe is:

  • loaded with nutrients
  • slightly spicy (depending on your jalapeno spice level)
  • the ideal level of sweet
  • the perfect addition to any taco, quesadilla, enchilada, burrito, or nacho concoction you make!

And the best part: it’s naturally vegan, and no one notices!

As summer is coming to an end (I know, I can’t believe I just put those vibes into the world either; if only summer would never end…), get your friends together, host a socially-distanced, fabulous taco bar, and amaze everyone with this quick and easy mango salsa!

Cheers,
Elana
